"Get out of your head", "He's a Head","She has no Heart" are actual descriptives of where the habitual state of our attention/awareness/energetic is usually located. This directly impacts how we experience our relationships and our reality. Western civilization specifically and our human collective generally, operate from what you could colloquially call "the head". Our education system and cultural beliefs emphasize and fixate pretty much on exclusively developing and strengthening our linear, logical, rational and analytical cognitive functions. We are en-trained with (unconscious belief/definition/emotional programs) to perceive and process information in such a dogmatic/specific/rigid way that it actually ends up filtering our experience of reality in a way that is controlling, limiting, disempowering, divisive, homogeneous, violent and separative for the individual. The result is we have both, an individual and collective mental health crisis. The issue is not the actual 'rational/analytical cognitive functions' (which are important/essential), it is the exclusivity of it's development to other perceptive modalities, its the imbalanced dominance relative to other perceptual skills, to other ways of knowing and being.. that is the issue.
I would argue our educational system (in tandem with our family and cultural 'systems') have greatly participated in creating a mental health crisis. Many of our so called individual mental health issues; bi-polar personality syndrome, borderline personality, attention deficit disorder, hyperactive attention deficit disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, anxiety disorders... and so on... are directly exasperated by the limitations as to 'how' we educate our selves, our children. How, we 'should" experience our self; how we should see and experience our world, what we 'should' believe to be true, how and why you should do 'things' with out any Self reflection or critical analysis. (While we do examine the individual to 'pieces' , we rarely question the psychopathic, predatorial, 'dysfunctional' behaviors of our various cultural institutions!)
(Here's the irony, while we are taught to be 'rational/analytical' ... our actual critical reasoning aptitude and abilities are quite poor when it comes to the Self. This is because our unexamined, unexplored unconscious beliefs/definitions and subconscious emotions usually overpower the rational/analytical. What happens is we end up using our rational/analytical process to simply justify 'why we did, what we did'... it's a backward process! As per.. How Your Personality is Constructed, the conscious/cognitive/behavioral experience is subservient to our unconscious & subconscious aspects. In general, the shift required is simple; we need to balance our thinking with our feeling which will help us access our unconscious beliefs and subconscious emotions. We need to train our attention/awareness skills and to strengthen our mind-ful-ness/observer attributes.... from an early age.)
Many of our serious, stuck adult and family issues are extremely difficult to change when we try to address them from this 'rational/analytical' process/context alone. Profound and permanent resolution to many of our personal issues requires working with Self beyond the 'cognitive/thinking' alone. When it comes to the human condition, a 'reason and rationality' approach is rarely enough. To many of the more innovative psychotherapeutic processes this is basic common knowledge. But it is time our educational institutions begin to incorporate other perspectives, other ways of knowing and processing information then their current 'stock work'. Again, one simple, powerful change here would be the training of Mindfulness; the ability to witness one's thoughts, behaviors, emotions in the moment,... to create a neutral state where we can observe and reflect on our complete inner experience. This one inherent, natural aptitude would alleviate much self perpetuated suffering as well as dramatically increase one's cognitive skills!
When we experience life primarily through our thinking processes, we then tend to 'operate' from a very pre-conditioned, pre-programed, unexamined belief, emotionally reactive and judgmental fashion. It is an; us.v them, better than/less than perpetual 'evaluative' process with poor self observational abilities... This is further compounded by the inherent tendency to a kind of self deluding belief we are 'rational, conscious and right... While this can be great and beneficial for many tasks at hand... however, if this is your primary and only 'state of consciousness'... I will tell, you are running on autopilot!
What do you think happens when you get various information signals such as feelings, sensations, visions, intuitions, synchronicities, a cognitive cellular knowingness, heart impulses, cross sensory perceptions, contrary information to your 'ways'... If you 'operate' from your head, you will have no frame of reference, no way to translate, interpret or create context from these other, powerful, empowering 'in-form-ational' pathways.
From a consciousness/physics perspective when you process information from the rational/analytical/linear perspective you are doing so at a relatively "low frequency level" to what is possible. In fact, when operating from this perspective, the mind aspect activated is in the solar plexus area of your body. This is your 3D mind, your third dimensional mind that operates primarily through your 'personality program' filter. (Please see: How Your Personality is Constructed. When you operate from your 3D mind exclusively, your personality patterns and negative ego are 'turned on full'!)
Your "heart" most definitely has powerful perception/information/relational qualities. When you connect to your heart, you are connecting to an information field through the feeling process that provides a whole new realm of perceptions, experiences, insights and knowings. We begin to experience the deeper aspects of who we are.... as well as others. The heart is the vehicle that connects us to our Self, then opens a pathway to connect and be in relationship with others.... to anyone, to everyone. When you are in your head.... this does not happen. Our heart is what informs us as to what is true for us, what our passions, joys and loves truly are. Our heart helps provide direction, meaning and purpose in our life that you will not access and experience when in your 'head.' This is why there is so much attention given to the heart in song, book, movie, folklore.... Shifting from your head to your heart, from thinking to feeling, is your path from personality conditioned programs to the unconditioned present moment of your Soul.
With new electromagnetic measuring instruments, they have now found the heart generates an electric field 60 times and an electromagnetic field 5000 times greater then that of the brain. (See www.heartmath.org) Again, while our education system tends to focus exclusively on developing our cognitive powers, we are missing out on other powerful, informational processing aspects of our Self. (In many aspects of life there is a lot of 'talk' about heart... but that is usually about as far as it gets!) We need to expand and begin to incorporate more modes, more skills, more heart information processing.
Along with the heart, other 'minds' are now being activated on our planet as humanity steadily evolves. The '5D Mind' is one that as it develops, it perceives resonant frequency fields holographically and multidimensionaly. This is the soul matrix 'mental mind' that has an ability to perceive beyond rational/analytical/linear info bits by 'seeing and reading' energy signatures and experiences holistically. By learning how to 'access and exercise' this aspect of yourself you can quickly complement your 3D perceptions.
For brevity and for clarity sake, "you physical mind receives, your conscious mind perceives and your highest mind conceives." (I am currently working on a more detailed article of this understanding.)
Your 3D Conscious Mind filters 'raw data' through your belief, definitions, emotional patterns before there is a 'conscious awareness thought and behavioral reaction..' A good analogy is that of a radio. All those radio stations are producing and sending radio waves simultaneously, however, we are 'conditioned' to receive and perceive very few channels! But, with some conscious intent and work... you can easily begin to increase your awareness of self, expand your understandings of reality, shift your experience of the world... by tuning into more stations and choosing which ones you wish to receive!! Spiritual growth in one big away is all about working with and expanding 'how' we perceive life. Here, we need to restructure our beliefs, re work our definitions, energetically neutralize our emotional reactions to enable us to increase our discernment so we will experience life in a more neutral, harmonious witnessing way.
One quick, simple (and essential) way to do this is by 'shifting' your attention/awareness/energetic from your head into your heart, and hold it there. In minutes you can begin to activate your heart intelligence and wisdom. (Okay... when it does come to the heart, many of us need to first clear out old emotional wounds or some static emotional energy before we are able to get a clean, sharp signal.) But once your heart is cleared and open, you can shift beyond your personality based conditioning to the unconditioned wisdom of the heart, of your soul. When we do this, we move from a place of control, habitual conditioning, judgement, reaction to a place of surrender, allowance, love and connectedness in the present, centered moment.
The first organ to develop in the fetus is the heart. We enter and exist our physical life through the heart! Exploring one's own heart, it's breadth, depth, nature is a life long, evolving journey. It is your journey back to your Self. It is through feeling, experiencing and witnessing one's heart do we connect to the essential nature of who we are. It is only through our heart and body are we able to intimately connect with our Self, with others and even with our planet! When we shift into our hearts, we shift from a personality based being to an authentic soul filled, divine creator of life.
Commit today and every day, in every which way, to bringing just a little bit more of your heart feeling sense into your present, centered awareness of all that you do ... and then witness the unfolding, emerging divinity of who you are! This is the shift in consciousness, the shift in our modius operandi that is required individually and collectively to live in greater harmony and balance with our Self, each other and the Earth.
