Fear and Unconscious Beliefs
From an energetic model of consciousness, fear is created when energy is run through a false belief system... a belief system that is out of alignment with the essence of who you are. The next layer of your consciousness affected are your thoughts and thought processes. The combination of beliefs/emotions/thoughts trigger pre-patterned, pre-conditioned behavioral responses that create the uncontrolled, chaotic flight, fight or freeze experience. (This happens extremely fast!) Fear, is an unconscious definition or belief program usually created in your early life via family, friends, religious institutions, schools and other areas of life that were of great influence. (Yes they can also be created later in life, like if you had 'painful' experience you do not want repeated such as a broken heart, loss of job, life threatening accident or loss of a partner.) In either event, these fear programs are rooted and live in your unconscious much like the root programs of your computer.
Paradoxically enough, the more out of alignment the unconscious fear based definition/belief is from who we are, the more power it holds over us and the more we consciously and unconsciously we will attempt to avoid it. Our avoidance to experiencing or evoking the fear... will shape our behavior but somehow it inevitably finds its way back into our experience... When we get caught in this 'fear back loop' we can experience powerlessness and will "do anything" to gain control over it. For example, in relationships we might fear we will lose our partner. This might be connected with a multitude of unconscious associated beliefs such as financial security, religious expectations, social or parental judgements, our sense of insecurity or self worth, failure , fear of aloneness and so on.. When we sense our partner pulling away, just a bit (even if they are trying to create some space of their own) we begin shifting our behaviors. One strategy might be to 'give our self away' and try to be the ideal partner or at the other end become enraged. When that act wears off due to it's ineffectiveness, we try to find another short term strategy. However, what ever you or your partner does, or does not do you will always have an uneasy sense and belief your partner will leave you. So as you believe this, you exacerbate the situation and expedite the realization of your fears and beliefs. Here, you would be right in stating, "I knew this was going to happen (again)" as these unconscious beliefs are truly self fulfilling prophecies. (Our experience of reality is greatly, greatly affected and created by our belief systems.)
At Fear's worst, we become afraid of being afraid.... this is when our world completely contracts, our inner boundaries become solidified and our outer experiences reflect back a life of trying to control our external environment and everyone in it. Here, we find ourselves controlling an ever shrinking external experience, (reflecting what is transpiring within.) The root of all fears is the belief we will lose absolute control of our self, we will have no control. Fear can have the bodily experience of chaos, emptiness, powerlessness, rage or other feelings we have 'judged' to be unacceptable and to be avoided at all costs! Interestingly enough, when not addressed pretty much everything we do reinforces and perpetuates the fear. But, there are pathways out. One way is to consciously identify the definition or belief system rooted in your unconscious and find the "nonsensical, illogical, comical" concept in play. (These are common 'post rooting' experiences.) Another way is to completely surrender to the feeling of fear itself in a grounded, centered, witnessing way. Allowing the fear to be experienced this way drains or discharges all the emotional energy out of the system, allows you to quickly reframe your belief/definition and experience peace, equanimity and insight from the 'other side'. Many fears can also be ameliorated by working with your own inner guidance by employing the "fear removal matrix program" at night while dreaming.
Roots of Fear
The use of fear to control the behavior of individuals and groups is prevalent everywhere. Parents instil false beliefs into the child as an easy behavioral management tool. This can be as simple as "You better be good or your father will get angry" or "If you're bad, Santa will give you coal and you will get no presents." Repeated withholding or conditional giving of your love and attention if they do something bad can easily create anxiety and fear of separation, powerlessness and rejection in a child.
Governments are always threatening and creating fear by way of "it's the law or we need to create new laws." (Ironically enough, if this is the case and since they create the laws, many laws could be deemed incongruent with the beliefs of their citizens). There are threats and fears of fines, jail time, criminal record, armed force or even being labeled "unpatriotic". The biggest fear control program out there now is "the terrorist threat". Which is great for government because terrorism is a pretty big catch all... any act, at any time, by any person could be construed as a terrorist event or threat. As the threat goes up, their control, posturing and behaviors changes to match. Western governments have created a deep seated 'fear of terrorism' in their populations to the point where it's citizens have quite happily given away many of their individual rights and freedoms in exchange for the illusion of security and safety. Governments are masters of fear programing and reining in individual rights when it serves them.
Religions are riddled with fear based belief programs... "What you are doing is against God's will!" There is also Gods wrath, God's judgement, God will not love you, threats of excommunication and isolation and then the ultimate damnation clause, "no salvation for you"!
It seems most of our cultural established institutions education, health, military, police, entertainment, news media, banking... are full of unquestioned, unexamined unconscious fear belief systems that seep into minds daily and control our behavior without our awareness. With out an examination, a questioning of our beliefs, especially the ones that activate our fears or anxieties (smaller fears!), we will live a life that has been greatly, externally controlled and defined.
Seed Fears
Going deeper into aspects of Self, many of the most difficult 'root fears' can be off shoots of our 'Seed Fears' that reside in the human collective unconscious. Seed fears reflect the deepest individual and collective unconscious experiences we have with our self and our own divinity that are well beyond the personality and cultural programing. Seed fear issues are ones of abandonment, betrayal, not being supported, trust, the right to exist and annihilation.
When you explore and move beyond seed, individual and cultural fears you open doors that are more reflective and in alignment with of the essence and authenticity of your natural self. You will laugh at the now obvious, ridiculous uncovered root beliefs or definitions that were literally 'running your show'. As you work with and redefine the experiences of your fears (from a centered, grounded, witnessing state) you will experience these tentacles of control that limit your experiences dissolve. When released from your fears you will feel the freedom and power of who you truly are as you explore new territory of your self as it unfolds with in and reflected with out. You increasingly become a free, sovereign, divine being.
(With respect to the pics above. In Tibetan Culture they have pictures and carvings of 'demons' everywhere. One purpose is to help condition and remind individuals in the after life that if they run into any of these demons, they are but illusions of one's own mind! Just as their are in our physical embodiment.)
